Judge tosses 2001 murder conviction

Trenton doctor was serving life in 1983 slaying of partner

Detroit— A former Trenton doctor serving life in prison for murdering his medical partner could be freed soon after a federal judge said his constitutional rights were violated during trial.

The order by U.S. District Judge Marianne Battani, dated Tuesday and filed Wednesday, is the latest twist in a decades-old murder and prolonged legal battle involving Dr. Jasubai Desai.

He was convicted of first-degree murder in 2001, 18 years after the death of Ann Marie Turetzky.
