2 Eastpointe cops may face charges soon in sale of confiscated items

Eastpointe — Two Eastpointe police officers accused of selling items seized in drug operations and pocketing the money may learn in the next week whether they will face criminal charges.

One officer has been placed on a paid administrative leave, while the other has resigned. It appears the two officers acted independently, city officials said.

"It's very disappointing, there's no question," said Steve Duchane, Eastpointe city manager. "It puts a taint on the department and the people of the city. And that's why we had to deal with it promptly and directly," he said

Both are veteran officers with more than a decade of experience who were involved with the department's undercover narcotics operations, officials said.
