A hug, a dance, a fatal shot raise doubts

Detroit— Questions continued to swirl Monday around the fatal shooting of a Detroit woman as she danced with an off-duty police officer early Sunday morning.

The victim's mother doesn't understand why the officer was carrying a loaded weapon during a party in his yard. Firearms experts said they don't see how dancing could cause the handgun to discharge.

Adaisha Miller, who would have turned 25 Monday, was dancing with Officer Isaac Parrish, 38, when she hugged him from behind during the fish fry, said police. A .40-caliber handgun, held in Parrish's waist holster, fired and struck Miller in the lung and heart.
