Ex-candidate for Congress charged with lying to FBI

Detroit— A congressional candidate lied to federal agents and tapped an Albanian loan shark to bankroll his failed campaign against U.S. Rep. John Conyers, according to court records.

The allegations against Westland businessman John Goci were unsealed Wednesday in a complaint charging him with lying to agents, a five-year felony.

The charge stems from an FBI investigation into Tomo Duhanaj, the owner of Bray's Hamburgers, in Westland.

Goci, wearing a yellow T-shirt, jeans and leg chains, was released on $10,000 unsecured bond Wednesday following arraignment in federal court. Goci, 42, was ordered not to talk about the case with Duhanaj or any other co-conspirators.
