Detroit— The man who claims he was paid to kill Jane Bashara will likely try to cut a plea deal with prosecutors if he's ruled competent to stand trial by an independent psychologist, his attorney said Monday.

A Michigan Department of Community Health psychologist ruled Joseph Gentz, 48, of St. Clair Shores is competent to stand trial on first-degree murder and conspiracy charges in connection to the Jan. 24 murder of Bashara. The Grosse Pointe Park marketing executive's body was found inside her Mercedes-Benz sport utility vehicle the morning after she was strangled to death.
