Two boys - one about 10 - carjacked woman, Detroit police say

Detroit — A teenager and his prepubescent accomplice are wanted by police for allegedly carjacking a woman in broad daylight Saturday outside an east-side dollar store.

A 34-year-old woman was exiting the Family Dollar store in the 16000 block of Harper at 6:25 p.m. when two boys, described as about 10 and 16 years old, approached her. The teenaged suspect produced a handgun and the pair made off with the victim's 2001 Cadillac DeVille, Detroit Police Officer Cassandra Lewis said.

"When I was typing out the report, I had to double-check to see if the age was correct," Lewis said. "But that's what the victim told the investigating officers: That one of the suspects looked around 10 years old.

"This is the first time I've seen a carjacking suspect that young," said Lewis, a 12-year veteran of the police force.
